Understand

Nashville hometown heroes William Tyler and Luke Schneider enlisted me to help art direct  their first release on LA ‘all genre’ imprint Leaving Records. As a long-time fan of William’s work I immediately jumped at the opportunity.

Understand was inspired by a Ted Chiang short story of the same name and was recorded during one long take in a Nashville studio during early COVID lockdown. The EP is an exploration of krautrock and ambient arrangements using electric & acoustic guitar, pedal steel guitar, banjo, bass, and synthesizer.

I wanted the art direction to evoke some of the melancholy and longing of the record in a way that felt authentic and removed from the time and place we were all stuck in early 2020.
